| Abstract: |
This project will develop a railgun bore insulator made with a 3D woven preform to overcome limitations of previous multipart insulators. The new insulator performance will be validated through railgun testing in Phase 1. |
| Benefits: |
Insulator life is one of the major roadblocks to weaponization of railguns for a variety of military applications. The benefits of this SBIR are that we will develop at least one insulator design that can address these life limitations, making it possible to move to an advance development program. Potential commercial applications exist in conventional gun bore liners. |
