Abstract: Due to recent technological advancements there is a need for an infrared (IR) transparent, MMW band-pass coating for domes and windows that meets the technical challenges of multi-band transparency and electromagnetic shielding. Eclipse has developed a proprietary developed at private expense infrared (IR) transparent electrical conductor. This IR transparent electrical conductor is a multi-layer all solid state thin-film system designed for coating on almost any substrate including plastics. The sheet resistance of the coating system is approximately 5 Ohm/sq and the IR transmittance is above 90%. The Phase I effort consists of depositing the Eclipse IR transparent conductor on a variety of flat window materials and characterization in the IR and MMW spectrums. Goodrich Electro-Optical Systems, Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation, and Lockheed Martin Missile & Fire Control System have provided letters of interest on the project. Eclipse plans to Fast Track the Phase II effort with non SBIR funds.
Benefits: At present, infrared missiles are increasingly utilized in many government contractors product base. Based on studies, a report for about 320 air-to air, air-to surface, anti-armor, anti-ballistic submarine, surface-to-air and surface-to-surface missiles are made by more than 25 companies throughout the world. This opportunity supplies an increasing market size for Eclipse. Commercially, development of the technology would enable the development of Variable Emissive coating for windows capable of heating and cooling a home.
