Abstract: Rite-Solutions in consultation with Wood's Hole Oceanographic Institute will formulate an approach for creating a sonar mission planning tool that will enable planning of Naval exercises while minimizing the risk to marine mammal life. The planning tool in conjunction with DDG organic sensors and new deployqble sensors will provide real time reporting of marine mammal activity in designated Navy operating areas. Cutting edge knowledge of marine mammal acoustic emissions, physiology and behavior; knowledge of all related research globally; remote acoustic sensor system technology; existing Navy performance prediction tools (e.g., PC IMAT); and multi-dimensional visualization and data rendering technology will be merged to provide this important capability.
Benefits: The planning tool and remote sensing devices could be employed by the oil industry and other off-shore energy exploration endeavors utilizing high energy seismic surveys.
