Abstract: |
We propose the development of a motion free, eye-safe, all fiber optic laser based scanning system for real time terrain mapping under degraded visual conditions. The proposed technique leverages on advances in fiber optic laser and sensor technology developed over the past decade for the telecommunication industry as well as the high power fiber laser market. The resulting system provides a practical solution for a high speed scanning system capable of operating in the harsh helicopter environment. The proposed system will be capable of providing a 10 Hz dsiaply update rate to the pilot under all conditions. |
Benefits: |
Research and development from the proposed effort will result in motion free light weight scanning sensors for several aviation applications such as close formation flying, surveillance and night operations, fire-fighting, off-shore platform operations, as well as geological surveying. This technology will also find applications in the automotive market. |
