Abstract: The overall objective of the Phase I effort is to design and demonstrate the feasibility of an approach to exploit the multipath scattering from a target in a complex scattering environment for RCS classification, and to assess the requirements and limitations of the algorithm. Isolation of the direct backscatter and multipath scattering associated with a target is accomplished using a combination of coherent and incoherent radar processing.
Benefits: Understanding the limits of exploitability of the multipath scattering in the classification of targets using RCS. The research should be directly applicable to more general radar multipath problems, such as using multipath ghosts in SAR imagery to improve reconstructed target images.
