This proposal will detail the Spectral Labs Incorporated (SLI) and University of California, Davis (UCD) team's proposed method for significantly improving Li-ion Battery Monitoring to detect the onset of cell degradation that could lead to catastrophic failure of a battery pack and providing a means to prevent such an event. It involves an innovative sensor architecture and associated diagnostic analysis algorithms based on detailed tracking of the behavior of Li-ion cells throughout their charge and discharge use cycles. Benefits: The outcome of this R&D effort is an improved safety system for large scale Li-Ion batteries.
