Abstract: A comprehensive approach is proposed to develop and integrate tools for computationally obtaining radar signatures of small watercraft in dynamic seas over many simulation steps. In the proposed Phase I effort, HyPerComp, Inc. will develop and demonstrate capabilities for quickly creating geometric representations of dynamic sea states with boats in motion for use by high frequency and full wave electromagnetics solvers. A template-based or parameterized approach to creating boat geometry will be implemented that will allow for fast automated meshing, which will be performed on-demand, based on simulation results and requirements. An advanced 6 degree of freedom (DOF) algorithm will be implemented to accurately predict boat motion due to dynamic seas. Phase II work will focus on further developing the capabilities implemented under Phase I as well as adding or integrating capabilities for visualizing input conditions and large scale simulation results as well as building up a database of boat models and components.
Benefits: We intend to provide our integrated sea surface and small boat modeling tool to government agencies and commercial customers interested in using high frequency and full wave CEM solvers to simulate targets on realistic sea conditions. We believe that a successful implementation of the goals of this effort will make a highly marketable product by advancing the state of the art in mesh generation.
