Abstract: Crossfield Technology proposes to develop an IEEE 1451 plug-and-play OpenVPX SIGINT data acquisition system with FMC sensor interfaces and low-latency, high-bandwidth FDR InfiniBand network connections to a signal processing HPC cluster. The digitizers will be synchronized to nanosecond-level precision using IEEE 1588 with the submarine's onboard atomic clock. The VPX system will RDMA directly from FPGA memory to user-space memory or GPU memory in the HPC cluster with zero copy latency. Overall, the finished system will be the state-of-the-art in compact, high-speed data acquisition technology.
Benefits: Upon successful completion of this program, Crossfield will begin marketing the full-scale SIGINT data acquisition system to other DoD organizations. The system has potential commercial application in several Air Force and Navy avionics systems, UAVs, and small manned aircraft for SIGINT operations in addition to submarine Electronic Warfare systems. Intelligence and security agencies also have several SIGINT applications for this type of hardware.
