Abstract: Engineered materials can deliver strength to weight ratios that are ten times that of current raft and life preservers, that is, the materials are 1/10 the weight for same or greater strength. These materials hold great promise for creating much lighter and less bulky emergency rafts and life preservers. The reliable fabrication of these advanced materials are proposed to be developed and proven in order to make these constructions cost competitive. Additionally, newer materials and designs promise much lighter and more comfortable insulating survival suits, and raft filling systems.
Benefits: Lighter, more compact rafts. Lighter, more comfortable insulating suits. Lighter, more reliable raft filling systems.
