Abstract: The Liquid Robotics Team proposed to adapt LRI's wave-based propulsion technology and AD&D, Inc. and Ultra USSI's DWADS sonar technologies to create a Persistent Anchorless Active Sonar Craft. Using a combination of conventional fossil fuel and wave-based propulsion, the PAASC will be capable of holding station in the presence of 1+kt depth-averaged currents for greater than 14 days. The PAACS's sonar system will include a transmit and receive array cable that can be deployed from depths of 75 to 500 ft.
Benefits: The PAASC can be reconfigured for a wide variety of commercial and science mission payloads and applications, including long-term support of other unmanned maritime vehicles.
