Abstract: CEI is proposing to develop FlexMOS, a multi-component software system designed around user-driven message distribution requirements. The system consists of a web-based profile management environment that interacts with a post-office structured automated distribution system. All software components are based on open source technologies, based on open messaging and transport standards and are not tied to specific commercial messaging applications. System is structured to facilitate classification of incoming traffic by multiple means such as security level, sender, recipient, keywords, and various other attributes.
Benefits: CEI has developed software and hardware technologies for a variety of government programs, and the team has transitioned over 45 products to production for use in DoD and Government systems. CEI also has experience commercializing technology developed under Government-funded programs. Products are packaged as COTS items, listed on a catalog price sheet, supported with technical application notes and marketing materials, and made available for sale to both the commercial and Government markets. CEI will promote technologies developed under this effort as part of its standard commercial product marketing and sales activities. The technology enhancements anticipated under this program will allow realization of enhanced capabilities across the Navy Messaging System when processing multi-message formats in large volumes with an emphasis on message priorities, classifications, topics, senders, etc. The FlexMOS technology being developed holds promise for a variety of other commercial based messaging systems including: 1. Commercially distributed business communications systems - Horizontal Markets 2. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) offering canned messaging solutions - Vertical Markets 3. Emergency Services offering multiple messaging methods to avoid single points of failure - Vertical Market It is anticipated that both Military and Commercial messaging systems will benefit directly from the flexibility enhancements available through the use of the FlexMOS system. CEI is currently implementing AS9100 processes and is going through audits which will certify CEIs production capabilities and systems. Larry Scally, CEI's Chief Technology Officer, previously founded CRI which was a COTS company, and has personally productized over 45+ products, systems and subsystems. All products were on standard price sheets with associated data sheets. They were sold to many different companies supporting the DoD, government and commercial market spaces. This included the commercialization of multiple generations of an entire line of A/D boards, FFT boards, FPGA boards, FFT ASICs and subsystems. Mr. Scally was involved in all aspects of the products: configuration control processes (ISO9001:2000 audit), architecture, design, documentation, customer support, production, purchasing, business development, marketing, ruggedization, environmental testing, sales, program management, etc.
