Abstract: The Marine Corps is looking for innovative solutions to improve the effectiveness of locating and identifying weapon system Points of Origin (POO) and Points of Impact (POI). At the same time, the Marine Corps wants this system automated on ground vehicles where the subject system will be the secondary or "tag-along" mission. This capability will drastically reduce the manpower currently required to perform this needed battlefield function. Coherent Technical Solution Inc. (CTSi), in conjunction with The University of Mississippi has provided this proposal to meet this Marine Corps SBIR. The proposal provides a base and option. The base will provide an autonomous algorithm that will take acoustic data from up to 12 remote listening posts and produce an accurate position of the acoustic event. The base option will also demonstrate this capability via simulation and provide a complete definition of all the data required to perform this mission. The option will provide the needed algorithms to identify the weapon type as well as distinguish between POO and POI. The option will also provide the analysis that will ensure that the data loading can be accommodated by the current radio network and display the information on a map overlay.
Benefits: Ad-Hoc Ground Based Counter Fire System Algorithms: Software-based algorithms for acoustic sensors and networked sensors; DoD and Government Agencies for Complete Acoustic Sensing Systems: Fixed and Mobile Acoustic Sensing Systems (SBIR Ad-Hoc algorithms plus sensing hardware); Non-government agencies and private sector companies: Application Specific Acoustic Sensing Systems
