Abstract: A higher performing arresting cable that is lighter in weight by virtue of an optimized combination of advanced core materials, weave patterns, lubrication, wire strand alloys with higher strength and damage resistance, and innovative termination design is proposed. The concept will be proven through a rigorous and extensive 7-step comparative test and analysis program. The proposed configuration is likely to yield an arresting cable with less than 50% of the weight of the current configuration, with significantly higher factor of operational safety and operational life.
Benefits: There are significant opportunities for widespread adoption of a robust, lightweight, corrosion resistant cable with high-efficiency and reliability terminations. The applications and demand for such a solution span across many industries, including elevators, cranes, mine hoisting, bridges, offshore and aerial ropeways, rescue equipment, and a wide range of transportation systems.
