Abstract: |
We propose to create TEAMMATE, a system that can give individual instructor trainees Tailored, Extensible, Automated Mastery Measurement for Actionable Teaching Evaluation. TEAMMATE will combine low-cost, COTS sensors like a camera and microphone with intelligent software to assess multiple key aspects of verbal and nonverbal communication. Benefits: |
TEAMMATE will improve instructor training particularly in those aspects of instruction that are key to inculcating higher-order cognitive skills needed for Small-Unit Decision Making (SUDM). As such, instructors who use TEAMMATE will be more effective and engaging teachers, more mindful in their performance, and more likely to remain as instructors. Since research demonstrates that instructor quality is the strongest predictor of trainee performance, improved instruction will tend to increase SUDM and higher-order cognitive skills across the Marine Corps. |
