Abstract: SA Photonics' shipboard video access system (SVAS) provides a cost effective way to extend availability of shipboard live tactic video to practically anywhere onboard. The SVAS is compatible with various analog and digital video interface standards from analog composite video to HDMI and SDI. The live video sources are encoded into high performance and high BW efficiency IP video streams and multicast over the shipboard network with data encryption and access control. The networking coverage is extended by using existing power lines, coaxial cables and phone lines onboard. The wireless coverage is provided using visible light networking technology developed by SA Photonics. The video streams can be accessed wirelessly by mobile phone/tablet and laptop computers. Large fixed displays are supported by a small form factor computer.
Benefits: Making live tactical video accessible outside the confinement of combat information centers helps warfighters to make more timely and informed decisions in their operations. The proposed approach has the potential of adding the new video distribution capabilities onboard with practically no new cabling, hence saving cost and time of the installation of the system. In addition to military use, the technologies and products developed in this program have great commercial potential in industrial, educational and residential environments where high bandwidth wireless networking coverage is desired.
