Abstract: |
HMC's objective is to conduct an accelerated 3 month research and development effort to investigate the feasibility of applying the Lorentz Force to the creation of an electromagnetic armor system that will provide both heavy and light armored military vehicles as well as fixed armaments with an effective defense against multiple, and otherwise lethal RPG attacks. |
Benefits: |
the electromagnet (EM) armor system proposed will provide the Navy with more efficient retrofit logistics than ERA, a much safer alternative to ERA, lower cost and effective defense against multiple RPG attacks on both heavy and light armored vehicles. Theoretically, it is possible that the use of the Lorentz Force for such armor can be more fully developed and optimized to effectively defend against small caliber KE weapons and various other CE weapons. Successful development and proof of this concept will provide all military branches with the low maintenance, low cost and diminished safety logistics associated with passive armor systems while providing a higher rate of defense against multiple RPG attacks than current ERA systems. |
