| Abstract: |
TSI proposes to develop a mission planner that will be adaptable to AUVs currently planned to be integrated into the fleet over the next 3 years, be able to receive environmental data from Navy libraries (such as DIOPS), and optimize AUV missions as a result of the environmental data received. The mission planner will be able to coordinate the use of multiple AUVs to optimize environmental data collection and provide this information back to the Navy's data collection point. |
| Benefits: |
The proposed TSI Mission Planner will have broad applications across all users of AUVs. Some AUVs will have unique mission planners as part of their system. Some customers will own several types of AUVs and will want to use them in a coordinated operation to meet their requirements. It will be imperative for them to be able to use one mission planner that can integrate with all the customers AUVs and be able to optimize their use to meet the customers needs. A number of Government agencies will be using multiple AUVs, such as NOAA, NSF, and NASA. Academic oceanographic and marine research institutions will require multiple cooperating AUVs. Industries such as oil and cable are using AUVs now and will demand multiple cooperating AUVs to inspect pipelines and laid cables and conduct ocean floor mapping and surveying, for example. |
