Abstract: The intent of this proposal is twofold: first we will provide the instrumentation and data necessary to quantify the polarization requirements of future passive multi or hyper spectral systems utilized for high altitude ASW missions. Second, we suggest a way of passively detecting submarines from high altitude using polarization techniques.
Benefits: This effort will result in a method to document the polarization requirement for spectral sensors intended for ASW. This will be directly appicable to EPAS or some subsequent version of EPAS if it becomes a program of record and moves into acquisition. The second benefit of this research is to determine the feasibility of using full simultaneous stokes vector imagery to detect submarines from high altitude.
