Abstract: This Small Business Innovative Research Phase I project explores the feasibility of design and development of an infrared transparent, MMW band-pass coating for domes and windows that meets the technical challenges of multi-band transparency and electromagnetic shielding. The strategy is based on developing a novel thin film infrared transparent p-type conducting material. The transmission of this coating in the 3-5 microns band will be enhanced by depositing a broad band anti-reflection coating on the outside of the window/dome and by antireflecting the transparent conducting layer with an induced transmission filter design. The coatings will be thoroughly characterized for composition, thickness and optical properties. UES has teamed up with Battelle Northwest Division in this project.
Benefits: The filter developed in this project will have broad applications in both commercial and military aerospace industry. Both IR and MMW bandwidths are important in the communications industry.
