Abstract: The objective of the proposed work is to develop ultrasonic, non-contact, nondestructive testing technology for marine aluminum structures. Three novel approaches will be evaluated for the marine aluminum weld application. Technology selection will be based demonstrated defect sensitivity and inspection cost per linear feet of weld.
Benefits: Improved process control for marine structure welds, faster and more cost effective nondestructive testing techniques for welds during manufacture and during in-service repair.
