Abstract: |
Deployed stationary Marine facilities are equipped with a myriad of electronic communications and support equipment all requiring continuous power. Generally, power from portable generator units are not considered stable however, current inventories reflect a dire need for a versatile, robust uninterrupted power supply (UPS) tailored to field applications. SHOT has developed a surprisingly simple yet innovative UPS solution using the most recent advances in battery charging technology and power supply miniature packaging. The SHOT Marine Portable Power Unit (MPPU) is a small, field deployable intelligent charging platform that can operate in harsh environments from a variety of voltage sources utilizing common BB-2590/U batteries for both as a primary UPS source and for individual hot-swapping as necessary. Furthermore, the SHOT MPPU is designed to accept "Smart" lithium batteries utilizing advanced SMBus technology. The SHOT MPPU is a fully automated unit requiring minimal human interface. Simple display menus and operator instructions are presented via organic LED' or OLED's which are clear read displays even in the brightest of sunlight. |
Benefits: |
The anticipated benefits of the SHOT MPPU are significant. The Marines and other deployed Department of Defense agencies will now be able to secure uninterrupted power for virtually every mission scenario. The SHOT MPPU provides continuous power output for any 12VDC, 24VDC and 120VAC voltage input requirement. This continuous power output is uniquely provided via multiple BB-2590/U rechargeable batteries configured for a minimum 1kw for 3 hours of UPS support. The use of BB-2590/U batteries as the primary UPS power source also provides another highly desirable benefit. Individual Marines possessing energy-depleted batteries can now hot-swap depleted batteries for fully charged batteries without experiencing extended delays waiting for slow performing chargers. The SHOT MPPU charging platform utilizes durable, low cost commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware where possible. It possesses a desirable weight and form factor suitable for field deployment, integration into other portable and stationary military applications as well as, a myriad of commercial applications. |
