| Abstract: |
An innovative flow control device will be built and tested. Based on cryogenically proven, highly efficient Venturi-Offset Technology (VOST) developed for NASA, it has no stem-actuator, few moving parts, and an overall cylindrical shape. Consistently demonstrating breakthroughs in flow control, VOST technology provides precise linear flow control across its entire dynamic range, holds position without power, and requires remarkably low actuation energy. This project will demonstrate the viability of using VOST for autonomous, bi-directional, self-powered, low-pressure drop isolation valves for shipboard use. |
| Benefits: |
Extremely low actuation energy requirements are expected to result in a simple, rugged, self-contained isolation valve capable of handling high-flows with low pressure drops. Low actuation energy translates into smaller and less costly actuators resulting in a significant overall price and size reduction. A single size VOST valve can be used to isolate a range of pipe sizes, reducing logistics issues. Potential commercial applications include refineries, chemical plants, and other industrial facilities. |
