Abstract: We propose a reconfigurable Wavelength Division Multiplexed (WDM) optical node suitable for mesh network connection and capable of providing fast switching speeds, bandwidth-to-weight ratio, with high connectivity, reliability and survivability.
Benefits: The Wavelength Division Multiplexed (WDM) mesh network connection developed within this project has the potential for application within commercial avionic systems. Derivative technology for commercial markets will further find a marketplace in future optical communications where ever increased capacity and reconfigurability demands require advanced optical solutions. A second commercial sector with potential for implementation of spin-off technology is for data interconnect, as simple point-to-point links are replaced by more complex optical network concepts.
