Abstract: |
Management Sciences, Inc. scientists have developed Cognitive Bayesian Information Exploitation (CBNX), a revolutionary set of algorithms that apply context frames as filters to learn causal relationships needed to understand and exploit the meaning of data. We have applied the CBNX toolset to develop real time situation awareness of the health of aircraft engines, forest fires, and intelligent management of platform electrical power systems. We propose new research and development that will exploit the toolset to develop automated an automated toolset with predictive algorithms and data mining techniques to determine optimal maintenance actions incorporating level, severity, and frequency of corrosion events by aircraft. This new research will apply the toolset to provide automated intelligence data fusion at level 3 "understanding" and expand this to provide stochastic predictive intelligence algorithms for statistically accurate and timely corrosion situation awareness that continually improves. |
Benefits: |
Because of the corrosive nature of sea operations, corrosion is at the top of Navy's driver of life cycle costs. There is a huge cost associated with corrosion induced malfunctions not only for the Navy and DoD at large, but for commercial industries, as well. The commercial potential of a successful product or service in this area is extremely large. Navy and commercial users will benefit by using the powerful data mining, modeling and simulation capabilities of COMOS to exploit this information to optimize future corrosion management by learning, highlighting and tracking corrosion issues. COMOS will provide users with statistically accurate guidance that will enhance prevention, inspection, removal and treatment of corrosion and information management. As a result of using COMOS DoD and commercial customers will see substantial decreases in maintenance costs associated with detecting, repairing, and tracking corrosive areas. |
