This new class of sensors is extremely simple and robust, and able to make highly reliable measurements in extremely harsh and inaccessible environments. The sensor is also a smart sensor, with inherent performance verification capability. Benefits: The sensor technology proposed here will reduce sensor costs for turbine engine control and monitoring applications while increasing reliability and robustness. In addition to turbine engine applications these sensors will enable improved monitoring, diagnostics, prognostics and controls of a wide range of mechanical machinery for both military and commercial applications.
