| Abstract: |
The objective of this research is to demonstrate the feasibility of developing a software toolkit to describe, define and create visual data models that can be dynamically linked into a spatial framework to facilitate more rapid understanding of complex data sets for leadership decision making. The resulting software toolkit will be termed a Spatial Framework Mapping System (SFMS). The purpose of the SFMS is to provide the Navy with an advanced visual reporting capability that does not exist today. The research to be performed in this Phase I initiative will also develop the foundation design and functional specification for creating and evaluating a demonstration of the toolkit in the Phase II activities. |

The Spatial Framework Mapping System is expected to allow users to collaboratively use visualization techniques and methodologies to rapidly represent complex situations with a capability to drill down into data sources related to the visual representation. This will enable users in a wide variety of organizations and roles to use the SFMS to immerse themselves in the information to enhance the speed and quality of decision making. This capability will potentially benefit all organizations in both the public and private sectors to improve their strategic decision making capabilities. |
