The innovative design employs a fabric net structure rigged to the vehicle which significantly reduces the impeding air velocity on critical components. This approach provides the necessary protection with minimal impact to installation time, complexity, portability, and cost. The goals of Phase I include refining the concept using our multi-disciplinary high-fidelity modeling capabilities, reviewing ergonomics, efficient post transport storage, and researching scalability to other applications. Benefits: The proposal's goal is to develop and demonstrate the fabric net design as a system that is capable of providing protection to the Humvee during high-speed transport. The direct application of this design to additional military vehicles and slung cargo would clearly be the next step. In addition to the DOD transportation applications, the system could easily be adapted to provide protection to various commercial transportation scenarios. In hurricane regions, it could provide high wind and debris protection to ground level structures, sensitive communication arrays, and vehicles. Return
