| Abstract: |
The project will develop a novel generator that will allow the simultaneous generating of regulated voltages and currents.
The new generator will use a newly developed magnetic design technology that can yield high output power and efficiency with conventional magnet materials such as ferrite or ALNICO magnets. The power will be generated by a single generator that will simultaneously generate AC and DC output power.
The technology is already in the development phase and has been preliminarily validated through computer models and simulations along with confirming laboratory experiments resulting in virtually no technical risks for the development.
The projected performance will be up to 15,000 W with 5 kVA AC power and 400 Amperes of DC power at a total weight of 6.5 kg in an air-cooled package for the generator, inverter and regulator controls.
The proposed development will have many applications both for military as well as commercial applications..
|
| Benefits: |
The technology is directly applicable to many lightweight, low cost, very efficient generator and alternator designs for military and automotive applications. Besides other military and aircraft applications the commercial automobile sector also has a large demand for high power DC alternators (generators) and for on-board AC power generation for contractors, utility vehicles and public safety (fire trucks, emergency response).
Similarly, the technology is being incorporated in the design of traction motors both for scooters in the 500 W to 6 kW range and also a larger 35 kW traction motor for electric scooters, utility vehicles and automotive electric vehicles where this magnetic design technology will provide a stable, low cost motor technology that will enable manufacturers to lower the cost of fuel saving hybrid electric and all-electric vehicles.
Lastly, the technology can be scaled to very large machines where the performance and improved efficiency along with its potential for more fault tolerant operation can save operators significant operating costs while conserving energy, thus helping to reduce the country's dependence on foreign energy imports.
For the company these attractive markets will generate a rewarding market for its products and for licensing revenues.
