Abstract: The Data Integrator Ship Handling Assessment Management System (DI-SAMS) will gather and integrate data from the multiple automated sub-systems within the Conning Officer Virtual Environment (COVE) and will encompass the development and integration of an automated electronic Conning Officer Handling Assessment form (e-COSA). DI-SAMS will provide instructor support for providing Urgent Alerts, Periodic Reports and After Exercise / Summary Reports in order to increase instructor performance and reduce instructor workload.
Benefits: DI-SAMS will provide instructor support for providing Urgent Alerts, Periodic Reports and After Exercise / Summary Reports in order to increase instructor performance and reduce instructor workload. The DI-SAMS will be transitioned to the fleet as a plug-in to the COVE training system within the Navy and other COVE user communities such as Coast Guard. In addition to use within the COVE, the capabilities of DI-SAMS are being built such that it may operate with independently as an entity within a simulation network. This allows the expansion and extensibility of DI-SAMS capabilities to other simulation domains where it will act as an Instructor Support Module (ISM). This ISM will be able to integrate with a wide variety of simulation technologies both within and outside DoD and be able to receive, process and prioritize data for reporting to instructors via each simulation's API.
