Abstract: Warhead characterization is performed to better understand the damage mechanisms of a particular warhead from synergistic blast and/or fragment effects. This is especially important to assess the potential for collateral damage. Therefore, MSI is proposing the development of an advanced optical Large-scale Arena Warhead Characterization System (LAWCS) through this SBIR project which will improve the warhead characterization process through increased accuracy, better economy and simplification for the user.
Benefits: An accurate, automated, convenient method of performing warhead characterization will reduce the costs of acquiring such data, and it also can lead to reduced battlefield collateral damage.
