Abstract: TeraDiode proposes to design and build a high brightness ultraviolet (UV) laser based on its proprietary Wavelength Beam Combination (WBC) technology. TeraDiode will combine multiple state-of-the-art high power UV lasers in multiple wavelength bands using WBC to have a single output beam that is co-boresighted in the near field and far field.
Benefits: Benefits of the Research and Development proposed in this program include producing a extremely low Size Weight and Power (SWaP) UV laser module. The multi-band UV laser will have extremely high efficiency and excellent beam quality. Applications of such laser sources include materials processing, UV curing, laser printing, lithography, purification, and detection of airborne pathogens Commercial applications of the technology include industrial materials processing and medical applications. High brightness UV lasers can be used for non-thermal processing of materials, including micro-laser ablation at the sub-micron level. Furthermore, UV lasers can be used for surgical laser applications.
