Abstract: A thulium-based high peak-power system is proposed for generating wavelengths near 1.89�m, suitable for conversion to blue wavelengths near 473nm via fourth-harmonic generation. The proposed 1.89�m system will be capable of producing 80mJ per pulse at PRFs greater than 200Hz,
Benefits: Laser system and technologies developed under this SBIR are directly applicable to Aret�s airborne ocean remote sensing imaging lidar products used for mine countermeasures (MCM), bathymetry, and sensing of other underwater objects. Aret�s commercial strategy is to leverage new developments spawned by this SBIR and apply them to products and systems in our existing marine imaging lidar portfolio. Because the overarching goal of a high-energy thulium laser developed under this SBIR is the generation of blue wavelengths, Aret�s vast experience in active ocean remotes sensing in the littoral zones is a spring-board for emerging opportunities in the deep ocean, where 2-SHG blue wavelengths are applicable. Recent programs in non-acoustic Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), like Claymore Mine (CM), indicate there may be resurgence in deep-ocean remote sensing opportunities. Aret� is very familiar with non-acoustic ASW technology and applications. Aret� has developed several blue-green lidar system platforms based on either our Streak Tube Imaging Lidar (STIL) or flying spot lidar technology. These platforms and systems are ideal candidates to host a blue laser for deep-water applications. Aret�s laser systems group develops custom, DPSSLs for airborne military applications. We provide custom solutions to internal and external customers (e.g. Boeing, NGC, Raytheon, Ball Aerospace, DRS). Aret� has the capability to produce several lasers a month.
