Abstract: ASRC Federal Astronautics is pleased to present this proposal to demonstrate feasibility of a proportional thruster that is additively manufactured from a high temperature alloy and well-suited for use in a future Trident II D5 post boost control system upgrade. Our proportional valve design is based upon highly successful architectures originally developed by our Orbital ATK commercialization partner. The primary valve components that will be additively manufactured, will also incorporate an additively manufactured oxidation-prevention layer.
Benefits: Our reliance on OATK flight-proven valve design reduces development risk and cost. Use of additive manufacturing for the thruster body and pintle reduces production lead time and cost Our high temperature structural material for the thruster body and pintle provides long life and satisfactory thermal-structural margins with 3,000AF combustion gas temperatures A monolithic, one-piece thruster body provides leak-free operation with no gas leakage concerns at any pressure Our oxidation-resistant layer on hot gas-wetted surfaces provides long thruster life with excellent protection against oxidation
